Whether it's a cold or recovering from an injury through physical therapy, Appalachian has the resources that can help return your student to their healthy selves. We know that as a parent of a college student, it can be painful to hear that your student isn't feeling well. However, Appalachian has plenty of resources to help your student through the small and large issues.
M.S. Shook Student Health Service
If your student is sick and needs to visit M.S. Shook Student Health Service (opens in a new tab), please allow them to call and make the appointment. This allows your student to work the appointment around their class schedule, as well as become an advocate for their health. Please note that our Health Services Center does not provide students with absent-notes for their classes. Because of this, please encourage your student to reach out to their professor if they must miss class due to illness. Professors may contact M.S. Shook Student Health Service to confirm a student's appointment time if it overlaps with class.
Please remind your student that an AppCard is required for ALL services. Appointments can be made by calling (828)262-6577 or by going online. While student fees cover most of your student's health service needs on campus, there may be some additional costs depending on the treatment or service required; a comprehensive listing can be found on the M.S. Shook Student Health Service website (opens in a new tab).
