ShareTheRideNC is a statewide ride-matching service sponsored by the NCDOT. This free and secure website helps commuters find carpool partners to share the cost of driving. Appalachian students, staff, and faculty have the choice to match with other Mountaineers or with affiliates throughout the UNC system. Many students rely on formal and informal ride-sharing services, which are increasing in popularity in Boone and elsewhere. If your student chooses to use a ride sharing service, encourage them to take these safety precaution tips from our App Cares website.


Sunway Charters

Sunway Charters coach line makes round trip bus routes daily (7 days/week) to Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte and back to Boone. Tickets are available for purchase online, or at Phil's Citgo Service Station (next to Legends on campus.) The bus picks up at the Hoey Hall awning on campus.

Air Haven Limousine

Air Haven Limo provides transportation to all the surrounding airports. There are four or five different options to choose from.  Pricing is based on the vehicle, not by the person.

Hickory Hop

The Hickory Hop is an airport shuttle between Appalachian State University and the Charlotte Airport. Per Student: $120 round trip or $70 one way. The Hickory Hop operates 7 times daily between the Hickory and Charlotte Airports. The cost is $40 one way and $70 round trip from Hickory to Charlotte.
