The Counseling and Psychological Services Center strives to foster an affirming environment where all students are welcome and respected; a safe and confidential environment that honors each person’s experience and is open to the honest discussion of thoughts, feelings, attitudes, values, and beliefs.
In serving over 2,000 students this year, we are honored every day by the personal experiences that students share with us, and the opportunity to offer support and assistance to students from all backgrounds and identities.
As a reminder:
For students to get started, encourage them to come to the Counseling Center in the Miles Annas Building for an Initial Consultation. Check-in times are Monday-Friday 8:30-11:00 A.M. and 1:00-4:00 P.M.
Emergencies During the Day
For students experiencing an emergency during Counseling Center hours of operation (Mon-Fri 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.) they may come to the Counseling Center and indicate that this is an emergency. They will meet with a counselor as soon as possible. Examples of emergencies are recent suicidal thoughts, recent sexual assault, homicidal thoughts, the death of a friend or loved one, having unusual experiences such as hearing voices or seeing things other people do not, and other similar events.
Emergencies After Hours and Weekends
The Counseling Center offers after-hours emergency coverage for urgent mental health issues. Students or others concerned about a student can call the Counseling Center at 828-262-3180 and select the option to speak with the counselor on call.
